Over a hundred years of serving Mallorca’s Tourism Industry

Fomento del Turismo de Mallorca is a private and independent institution. Since 1905, it has worked on the tourism promotion of the island, supporting the private tourism sector, and collaborating with the national and international media.

Who We Are and What We Do

Fomento del Turismo de Mallorca, founded in 1905, was the first Fomento del Turismo created in Spain. The Fomento is a pioneering organisation that has played a key role in the promotion of Mallorca for over a century and well before any public institutions were established to undertake this work.

As a private entity, funded exclusively by its members, The Fomento represents the interests of Mallorca’s tourism sector – from a position of independence and commitment to the island. Its role has evolved over time, adapting itself to the needs of each period. Yet, its vision has always been clear: contributing to high-quality, diverse, and sustainable tourism.

Today, the Fomento acts as a platform to connect tourism companies, institutions, and the media. It promotes initiatives to preserve the island’s cultural heritage, actively working to enhance Mallorca’s image as a cultural, natural, and experiential destination, beyond sun-and-beach tourism.

A Board that Supports its Members

The present-day Board of Directors, elected in December 2025, combines continuity and renewal, with the inclusion of younger members, a (stronger?) larger female presence and long-standing members of Fomento. In this new stage, the entity maintains at its fundamental core the representation of the private tourism sector before local public administration. Via the International Press Centre  the Fomento aims to promote Mallorca as a responsible tourism destination. The Fomento’s Hiking Group aims to foster knowledge of the most authentic and diverse landscapes of the island.
