On an island surrounded by the sea, one of the top sports is sailing, from local Mallorcan fishing boats to luxury yachts. Mallorca is now internationally regarded as one of the most important nautical centres in Europe.

Throughout the island there is a great variety of water sports and activities for all the family. From organised boat trips to boat or pedalo hire. Various courses are available for sailing, scuba diving, canoeing, diving, swimming, and water-skiing in many different areas of the island.

The island’s excellent climate provides great conditions for cyclists to enjoy the kilometres of special cycle routes or mountain bike rides. The island is a paradise for golfers who can now choose from one of the 24 courses available on the island. The more adventurous can practice paragliding, gliding or riding in a helicopter or hot-air balloon.. Mallorca is a great place for those who enjoy the outdoor life.

Those keen on horse-riding can choose from more than a dozen clubs where courses are also held for novice riders. There also two race-tracks, in Palma and in Manacor where at weekends, visitors can watch horse and cart races called “Trotting”.

The island has excellent sports facilities with five sport centres and municipal facilities such as the “Son Hugo”swimming pool complex, or the new Palma Arena Velodrome. The “Son Moix” football stadium is home to the local Real Club Deportivo Mallorca football team. These facilities means that visitors have easy access to tennis courts, indoor football, volleyball, pétanque and even gokarting.

Walking around Mallorca’s beautiful countryside and hiking in the mountains are also very popular with all ages. Visitors can follow one of the many printed guides or take advantage of going out with a local guide.
